James is a set and costume designer for theatre based in Nottingham, UK.

A beneficiary of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Trainee Designer Scheme 2015/16, he studied MA Theatre Design at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and has a BA in English Literature from the University of Sheffield.

As both designer and associate he has worked with various venues and companies, including The Royal Court, Young Vic, Nuffield Theatre and Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre.

James holds at the core of his practice a belief in theatre as a collaborative art form and is fascinated by experimenting with new ways of incorporating practical lighting, video and sound into his design projects, working closely alongside other artists to do so.
